Hunt Story

Folks, this is not your typical hunt story. We had 0 history with this deer. The night before my best friend Mike Turner of 40 plus years was discussing our next morning hunt, and it was decided we were going to go after does to fill our freezers up. I got in the stand at approximately 6:30 a.m., and as soon as it got light enough to see good, I saw a doe behind me. I adjusted in the stand to hopefully get a good head shot on her, saving all the meat we could. I found her in my scope, then my scope fogged up. After cleaning it with my jacket, I settled back in on her, when I noticed a huge set of horns to her left. I got him in the scope and saw he was huge. I told myself not to look at horns anymore and concentrate on a shoulder shot. He took a few steps, and I squeezed of a round out of my browning 30/06. He dropped within 10 yards of initial shot. I texted my hunting buddy, but he had no service. I got down to go look at the deer and as I approached, I noticed how big it was. I face time called my wife to show her the buck of a lifetime — “hopefully not.” I went back to the truck and started blowing the horn to get my friend out of the woods. When he finally came out, we went and drug him out to the truck. Later on after lots of celebrating with friends, we green scored the deer at 155 inches.
