Hunt Story
I had watched this buck each year grow from a nice 8-point in (2019), 10-point in (2020) to this 12-point in 2021. My brother and I had many pictures of this buck before gun season arrived and a lot conversations about whether or not to let him walk one more year. We finally decided it might be time to shoot him. This buck was very comfortable with the area as we both had seen him last year many times as a nice 10 point. We thought this buck was 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 years old, but my taxidermist aged him at 4 1/2 yrs old after killing him. We were getting trail cam pics of this buck about every 4 days in front of our stands and knew it may be a while before I saw him because of all the acorns on the ground, well on Monday afternoon Oct. 18th around 6:30 he stepped out in front of me at 150 yards. I knew it was him immediately, but I picked up my binoculars anyways and took a good look at him before deciding to shoot him for sure. By this time he was facing me and I only had a chest shot, so I had to wait for him to turn, which he finally did turn at about 3/4s of the way. By this time he was probably 115 yds from me when I pulled the trigger and he darted off. At 49 yrs old I still get very nervous when shooting a good buck and said to myself (Lord please let hit that deer). As I walked down to where he was standing I didn't see any hair, blood or nothing on the ground and then I looked over to the direction he had run and there he lay about 15 yards from where I shot him. Thank you Lord!
