Hunt Story
I was in the stand with my mom after school on that Thursday. I went straight in my school clothes. We got to our stand on our family farm about 4 p.m. and we saw four does right away, then there was a lull. All of a sudden we saw this big buck walking down the road toward us. There were some trees in the way to begin with so I couldn't get a good look at him until he got closer. When he was about 100 yards away I told my mom to get ready because as soon as I could get a good shot I was going to take it. The buck paused for just a second and that is when I shot him. He just turned and walked away. I thought I must have missed him but I wanted to go look anyway. I kept saying that I knew I should have waited but I was scared he would run off. I ran to where I shot him and we found blood! We kept following the blood trail and then we got scared that we might be pushing him further into the woods so we decided to wait awhile. My dad and little brother were hunting in another stand so they came to help us. We got back to following that blood trail and we found him about 500 yards from where I shot him. I knew he was big when I saw him through my scope but when I walked up and started counting the antlers I got more and more excited. I couldn't believe it, I had just shot a 13-point with an 18-inch spread! This is the second buck I have ever shot and the first deer this year.
