Hunt Story

I got a telephone call from my youngest son Flint around lunch ask could we go hunting. It was the last week of school before they let out on Christmas break, and they get out of school at noon this whole week. I told him we could go but we were going to sit on edge of field where I saw this buck the day before. Wind was perfect and and I decided to get a better look at so we struck out into the center of a agriculture cover crop field that was planted in wheat. Deer were already in edge of field before we got to our spot and luckily as buck in unseen. It was around 5:30 pm and the field was full of small bucks and doe all around. I heard a really aggressive grunt from far away and spotted this buck running towards the others. It began to scare the other bucks away and I ranged it at 351 yards. Not thinking it was going to give me much time I dialed scope to 350 yards and shot it with my Mcwhorter 7STW and made a great shot. We immediately called my oldest son Kole to come help us look for him. It only ran 10-30 yards in a pine thicket and was dead. This deer was a little bigger than I thought when I initially saw him. He has mass and height. I am so blessed to be able to share these moments with my 2 boys.
