Hunt Story
After a slow season, I decided to take a rifle and take a doe. We, my youngest daughter and I, had only bowhunted this tract. With swirling winds I wasn't very optimistic, but at around 8 o'clock I saw a young 10-point. I decided to grunt at him to see if he would respond, he didn't even look my way. I text my daughter to tell her I had finally seen the 10-point and he wasn't a shooter. When I looked back toward the bottom, I saw a deer in the switch cane in the bottom. I could tell he was mature but most of the mature bucks have been broken. He was downwind, and as he turned to leave, I knew he was a shooter. He paused long enough for a broadside shot. I wasn't finding much blood, so I decided to back out. I text my daughter Baylee and she came out to help me. The blood trail was spotty, but he didn't make it but about 100 yards. The old 30-30 had done its job.
