Hunt Story

On opening day of deer season, the year I celebrated my 70th birthday, I checked the feeding times in the chart published in the GON magazine. The time for 10/22/2022 was 9:39 to 12:11pm, therefore I was in my stand around 9:00am. About 15 minutes later a fawn came close and picked up a few nuts. A little bit later a spike strolled by, feeding on acorns. He continually looked up at me. One could tell he was nervous. He would stomp his foot, look around and feed again trying to determine if it was safe to eat more nuts. Two larger does came out to feed and around 10:15 I saw something coming toward me out of the thick woods. It was a 10 pointer! Walking over he picked up a few acorns, as he turned. I shot and he dropped in his tracks! A buck with a 15.5" spread was the first buck I've ever shot on opening day.
