Hunt Story
I have passed on this deer for three seasons. Going into this year, I decided that if an opportunity presented itself, I would take this buck knowing he was at least 5 and a half years old. We have a lease next door to my 75 acres, and that afternoon my granddad called and said he had recent pictures of the buck on that lease. I chose not to hunt the lease and hunt the 75 acres because the wind conditions were better for my property. I got on the stand around 4 and immediately had action. Small bucks were cruising and I knew the evening was shaping up good. Around 7 pm a group of does came in and were acting a little funny. I heard some grunts in the distant but not what you would expect of a mature buck. Within 2 minutes of the does coming in the 10-pointer and another cull buck stepped out. I had one opening in which to shoot in the area he was headed, so I came to full draw. When he hit the opening I let my arrow fly and knew instantly he was double-lunged. I shoot Swhacker broadheads and knew he was a dead deer running. He piled up after about a 50-yard run. Its awesome to take a mature buck that you have history with, and even better to get it done with a bow!
