Hunt Story
I was hunting my Jones County land on Tuesday October 29th. I decided to hunt an oak flat from a stand I had not hunted this year. The acorns were dropping as I was on stand before sun-up. At first light a doe fed through to my left and went out the cut road my stand is on. At 8:00 am, a small doe came walking steadily through the oaks not stopping for a single acorn. I thought this was odd so I starting looking back where she came from. Less than a minute later I saw a flash of white in the thick brush. I looked through my binoculars and immediately saw a big rack. I raised my rifle to prepare for a left handed shot. He moved closer and stopped before a small opening. He paused as I held on the opening. The buck grunted and dashed through the opening before I could shoot. He slowed a bit and at the next opening I fired. He staggered off about 20 yards and stopped. I could only see his rear so I shot him in the hip. He staggered off into the brush. I stood up on my stand to face up the road where he had headed. To my surprise, he was standing in the middle of the road. He began slowly staggering towards me and I fired once more dropping him in his tracks in the middle of the road. No tracking and no dragging on a nice trophy. I have trail cams set out but had zero pictures of him. He had corn in his stomach so the "neighbors" must have been feeding him well.
