Hunt Story
We had recently put up the tripod in the area where we thought deer were crossing through the clearcut. My dad had this buck on camera two days prior to the day I killed it at 1 pm. I thought it would be a good spot to hunt if he was still roaming the area in search of a doe. My dad dropped me off at the tripod about 6 am on the way to his stand. Right around 7 am I see a deer making its way through the clearcut, and when I put my scope on it, I can see that it is a good buck. There was not an open shot where he was at the time, so I had to wait for him to walk out more in the open. He never really slowed down, it wasn't a trot, but it was a steady pace that he was on. I got as steady of a rest as I could and squeezed off the shot. He ran back in the direction he came from, and I gave him about 30 minutes before I got down to look for him. I ended up finding him down in the bottom of a drainage area. I wouldn't call him a monster, but he's the best buck I've taken and I was very excited.
