Hunt Story
I have 4 years of history with this deer. It has been a fun opportunity to watch him over the years in hopes that he would make it to 5.5. He had a pretty big range so it was always good to see him return. He initially showed up for his annual summer pattern around August and then he disappeared for several weeks and showed up again in early October in another area that gave me a game plan to try to vector in on him. He disappeared again for a couple of weeks and then returned with a doe. I knew I had a short window of opportunity before he would be looking elsewhere. On Tuesday, 29th, I decided to go to a food plot in hopes he would be with the doe to feed. A couple of does showed up around 5:30pm and a single doe came out of the thicket. He was about a minute behind her. She escorted him on the edge of the food plot, right beside me. After a rather intense several minutes and a missed shot opportunity, he walked directly under me to push another buck away from his doe. He then presented me with a 16 yd shot. I waited till he turned slightly quartered away, and sent the arrow downrange. It hit the intended spot and he ran about 40yds, stopped, and fell. The more seasons that go by, the more respect I have for these awesome animals. It’s bitter sweet in a way and the history ends with the release of the arrow. Thank You Lord for the opportunity with this buck and for the placement of the arrow.
