Hunt Story
The hunt for this buck started last October. He was a much smaller 10-point then, but his body was big, so we thought he would be good to shoot. He came out December 6 last year at 3:30 in the afternoon and I missed him. I got pictures of him over a month later which let me know that he was still alive. We put all of our cameras out in July and never got any pictures of him until last Friday night, October 18. We got pictures of him about 250 yards from where I killed him. I hunted for him where we got the pictures last Saturday, but didn’t see any deer. I got two more pictures of him Friday night, so I knew I had to go after him somehow the next morning. My plan was to hunt a box stand with a rifle just in case Saturday morning, and then hang a stand off of that food plot to bow hunt this buck the rest of the season. Well, at 7:45 A.M. He showed up just cruising through the food plot, and there was no way that I could let him walk past me. I shot him at about 75 yards and he dropped right there. When I walked up to him, I realized it was the same buck that I missed last year. He probably gained 25-30 inches of antler since then. Since I coach football in the fall, I don’t usually get to sit much until the season is over. At this point I have sat 5 times, and tagged out on two good bucks. An incredible year, and I am extremely blessed.
