Hunt Story

I killed a buck on this property on October 25 this year. In that story I talked about how we weren’t sure if we would get to hunt this property next year or not because it could possibly have solar panels put on it. My first two hunts on this property this year I had seen a shooter buck each time. This was my third hunt on November, 14. This buck was known as the “2 beam” buck because he has two main beams on his right side. It is definitely a unique rack. He showed up on Halloween evening after I had already killed the first buck. I decided to hunt him whenever the weather got right again. This hunt was a crazy story all around because I almost messed it up before I ever got in the stand. I got home from work and had just got my Browning BAR 30.06 ready to hunt. I hadn’t used it on the last buck because it needed something fixed then. Well I got to the property and got the hunting buggy off. I had grabbed a box of bullets on the way out the door. I filled the magazine with bullets and put one in chamber. I noticed that something wasn’t right. I had grabbed the wrong bullets. I called my daddy to please bring me his rifle, and he got there in about five minutes. I got in the stand about 4:05. The first two hunts here I had seen over ten deer each time. At about 5:30 the sun had disappeared, and I still had not seen a deer. I didn’t have a good feeling, and I figured I may actually get skunked. I happened to look straight out in front of me, and saw one deer walking out in the middle of the field. The food plot is on the right near the pines, and deer normally all come out that way. This deer was out in the open walking down a lane that daddy had cut back in early fall. I looked through my binoculars and couldn’t believe that it was “2 beam.” I thought how crazy is it that I have hunted here three times this year and all three times I have seen a shooter buck. He walked from about 300 yards away to about 100 and started feeding on the grass. He definitely acted nervous because every car on the highway that was about 400 yards to our left made him look up. At 80 yards he turned toward the food plot. I gave him a “merp” to stop him, and dropped him as soon as he did. I was tagged out on November 14, and had killed two bucks on the property I learned to hunt on as a kid. This buck won’t score much, but he might as well be 160 inches because I wouldn’t trade him because I shot him on this property.
