Hunt Story
This was my first trip to Cohutta. I found a few good looking areas on the map and took off for a day and a half of scouting before ever sitting to hunt. After checking a couple area and not finding what I was looking for, I went to my third choice. I stated to finally find sign worth sitting over about a mile in. I originally thought I was on top of a real nice bear based on the activity, scat and prints, so I quickly set up to hunt that evening at the base of a large oak surrounded by sapling pines creating a natural blind. About an hour later this nice WMA buck come in nose to the ground at 50 yards to close the deal. I had no idea nor were there and definite sign showing this deer was in the area. This is my biggest deer to date only two weeks after harvesting another very large 10-pointer at Big Lazer WMA. Both deer were tagged by DNR.
