Hunt Story

This was my third year hunting and after my first year of my husband teaching me all I needed to know for a successful hunt, my journey started to get one all on my own the last week of deer season two years ago. After many walks alone to the deer stand or the blind, numerous hours of watching for any deer movement, checking trail cameras, passing up does due to the rut was coming and passing up bucks because they needed more time to mature, everything lined up for me Christmas Eve. Twenty minutes prior a momma doe and her two young button bucks came out, and the little ones would not move to give me a clear shot at her. She caught wind of something in the air and took off prancing with the 2 lil ones behind her. I thought my hunt was over, and then about 20 minutes later I saw a buck way across the field and for the first time I put all my learning into action. I used only my scope on the gun to follow him up the field and kept it on him to wait and be patient to try to get that perfect shot. It was only 9 minutes from the time I saw him until the time I took the shot, but it seemed like an eternity and a lot of talking to myself to get him to turn just enough to get that shot placement where it needed to be. I texted my husband and he came from another field to help recovery, and we got him loaded, and I now feel like I am part of this special club that I never thought I would be part of.
