Hunt Story

My 9-year-old son and I slipped out to the shooting house after his twin sister turned down the opportunity to hunt that evening (they take turns going). As soon as we sat down, does started feeding into the plot. Both of my kids have had a good deal of seat time without pulling the trigger, so I gave Chance the green light to shoot the last doe left in the plot. He couldn’t get comfortable/steady on her, so he made the mature decision not to shoot. He was a little bummed for a short stint before in walks a really nice buck just before dark. I knew it was nice, but I was not sure how nice. I knew that it was sure nice enough for Chance to shoot for his first buck. He got on the gun quick and shot the deer directly in the chest (it was facing us) at about 65 yards. It dropped immediately and the calibration began! We soon discovered it was a 10-point and rejoiced in such a blessing. It’s going to be tough to top this first buck!
