Hunt Story

It was Thursday afternoon and I was begging my Mama to let me miss school on Friday so I could go up to the hunting camp with my Dad, and she finally gave in! I headed up Friday morning from Panama City Beach with one of my Dad’s friends and made it just in time to see my Dad drive up to the camp with a 10-point he had just shot. We threw some deer sausage on the grill before heading to the stand. I couldn’t wait, I was so excited and just knew today was going to be a great hunt. We sat for about 3 hours before it got dark. We saw a bunch of does and a couple of young bucks. At dark we headed back to the camp and got up Saturday and did it all over again. I was driving my Dad crazy in the stand just wanting to shoot something, but he told me to just be patient. Sunday morning we headed back to the stand. Dad chose the stand we sat in according to pictures we had been getting from that week. The morning was starting off slow. All of a sudden a doe came flying out of the left food plot with a young 8 point trailing her. Another doe came out from the right side of the food plot with my 8-point trailing her. Dad told me to get my gun up and get ready, he grunted and stopped the deer and I took the shot with my Ruger 243. I smoked him!
