Hunt Story
My Daddy and I decided to hunt in a stand we haven't hunted in this season. So we got in the stand right before day break, and we had seen a lot of tracks. When we got in the stand, we didn't see anything until about 7:15 AM. There is a long strip in some pines that the deer always crossed. It was about 300 yards away. When they crossed as usual, they fed their way down to about 170 yards. We were watching them feed and play around. I looked and saw that one doe was about 15 yards into the timber looking to the right at something we couldn't see. I asked my Daddy if I could shoot because it was getting late in the morning. He said, "Case, if you want to, but I think you ought to wait because a buck might come." So I waited for 5 minutes. Then my Dad said, "Case get your gun up a big buck is coming." Sure enough, a big 9-point came out and right there and then the does went everywhere. When he got broadside, I pulled the trigger and had it right on the shoulder. When the smoke cleared, we saw that the big buck was on the ground dead. So we waited to make sure he was dead. Then we got out and walked to where the buck was laying. Twenty yards away from us a doe jumped up while we were walking to the deer. When we got up to the deer, my Daddy and I both thought that this was the biggest deer I've ever killed. My birthday was the day before, and I was not able to hunt. This hunt made my birthday weekend a great one.
