Hunt Story
On the evening of October 20th, I was able to take my two oldest sons hunting with me to the Flint River WMA Youth Hunt. We had settled into a ground blind hoping that Caden, my oldest son who is 6 years old, would be able to harvest a deer. The location I had chosen, I would have been satisfied to see a deer. A few pin oaks along a hedge row seemed to be attracting a few deer. We were settled in for about an hour when I heard deer coming for us. To my surprise a very nice 8 point and 4 point were headed straight for us. The 8 point began to snort wheeze, laid his ears back, and walked stiff-legged towards the 4 point which gave my son opportunity to get setup to make the shot. My son was able to make a 30 yard shot right through both shoulders. As a father, one of the greatest moments in life is to see the excitement of my boys when a deer is harvested. To say the least, it will be memories that last a life time! -Benny Overholt
