Hunt Story

I arrived at my stand on Dec. 21st around 6:15 a.m. It was 28 degrees and very still. It was an uneventful morning until 8:30 when the frost started melting. The first action of the morning was a spike chasing three does. I decided to mess with the spike a little bit and hit my grunt call a few times. Of course he didn't pay me any attention the ladies present. While grunting at him, I called in a different spike and he proceeded to make a scrape and then started feeding about 75 yards from my stand under a big red oak. He fed for about 15 minutes, and I caught a glimpse of a good deer moving through some sage brush to my left. Once he stepped into a clearing, I could tell he was a good buck. He took interest in the spike, and luck would have it the spike led him to a spot where I could make a shot. I hit him in the neck at 70 yards and he dropped in his tracks.
