Hunt Story

Well this buck is the cumulation of on and off hunting over the last 12 years due to work/kids/life. Britney has had some bad luck with even seeing deer so, Raelynn, our daughter wanted to go with her for good luck and mommy/daughter time. We had been seeing this buck and a few others on camera in daylight and decided she should sit in the same blind as the night before even though she was skunked. This buck had actually been there around 1:30 earlier in the day. Britney had the green light for anything that came in. As she and Rae sat ready to fight squirrels that were trying to get in the blind with them we would text back and forth for updates. After about 10 minutes of no texts, I received a pic of a doe from my covert cam in front of them. I quickly texted to shoot her if she wanted to. No response. Another pic of the doe and still no response. The next pic I get is the buck standing there at 20 yards, and my heart started pounding and I wasn't even in the blind. So I waited for a few minutes and finally got the text. She was unsure of the shot as he ended up kind of turning as she squeezed the trigger on the crossbow. She went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, but luckily she had a camera rolling so that a buddy and I could review once we arrived. We did confirm a hit but it was hard quartering away and we knew it would be a tough track. Well after tromping through the woods in the dark with an 8, 6 and 18 month, we finally found him over a half mile away. What a roller coaster ride of a first deer, and I'm so thankful to have been a part of it and for my kids to have been a major part of it from blood trailing to helping coach and keep momma calm in the blind. Rae was in the November issue with a deer from the same blind a month earlier! Now it's back to brother's turn for his first buck!
