Hunt Story
After class concluded this morning I decided I would spend my evening sitting in my favorite place, a deer stand. Signs of the rut were finally coming into view so I decided the hunt would best be spent where the does were, which is one of our food plots. The hunt was very uneventful until 30 minutes before dark; a doe and her twin fawns wandered on out from my right. they took turns browsing the newly sprouted winter rye. they would eat for a few minutes then walk around, they would repeat this cycle two-three times before finally exiting the plot to my right. I guess they had not had enough as they were back five minutes later only this time a friend was tagging along, a fork horned buck. They were perusing through the rye when all of a sudden their heads all looked up at once! The fork horned buck wheeled around and took off for the cover of the woods. instantaneously the rest of the small group followed. I Immediately looked for what had spooked them. When I turned, standing there was the biggest buck I had ever seen on the ranch in all of his majestic glory! Quickly my instincts took over and this Georgia giant was on the ground within 10 seconds! This is my first mature buck taken and I couldn't be happier!
