Hunt Story

I’ve passed this deer for 4 years. This deer was estimated 5 1/2 years old. I’ve watched him since he was a 4-pointer. We named him “Johnny Ringo”(from the movie Tombstone) because he was always so “high strung.” The 1st hunt he smelt me, even being upwind from me, he blew & ran off. I thought I’d never get him. I backed off a few days and went back in there and this time threw my clothes in a bag with acorn rage and shook it around. Acorn rage was what I had been putting out. This ended up covering my scent perfect, as crazy as it sounds. He walked in at 15 yards but was behind a tree. He walked out with two 8-pointers and then eventually gave me a broadside shot at 18 yards. I made a perfect heart shot though the exit wound came out differently. I heard him crash in the bottom of the ridge and decided to wait until the next morning to recover him. I was amazed at the G5 mega meat broad head and the blood that was everywhere. The buck didn’t go but 35 yards! I’ve got him scored right at 142 inches & have my fingers crossed that he will be #3 on Muscogee county bow kill record books! Thanks GON magazine for all the hunting tips over the years! This is my biggest GA buck with a bow!
