Hunt Story
We had this buck on camera several years, during late season, but never saw him in person. Then, on 12-21-24 I was hunting alone and saw the buck. I was surprised to see he had grown a flyer drop tine. I had no shot opportunity with my bow and worried we would not cross paths again. The next afternoon my 6-year-old son, James, was able to go hunt. We got situated in the ground blind at 3:30 pm. The wind was perfect and the temperature was in the mid 40s. We sat and initially there was no activity. I was worried the hunt would be unsuccessful. Finally, at 5:18 pm, I looked up and saw the buck making his way thru all the downed hardwoods. Our area suffered major damage from hurricane Helene. I am filming the buck as he walks in. When he goes behind a cluster of trees, I tell my son to be ready because he is making his way to the road. When he came out at 70 yards, I told James to squeeze off his shot. He made a perfect shot with his CVA scout .243 with Hornady SST 95gr. The buck ran 40 yards and went down. I am extremely proud of my son. He is no stranger to harvesting turkeys and deer, but this is his biggest buck to date and one that is truly unique. We don’t often see bucks like this in our area of the state. He is truly a buck of a lifetime here in Lincoln County.
