Hunt Story
I’ve been hunting every off day, some all day sits trying to get a good buck. I had two good ones I was after, but nothing since November 1st. I woke up on the 16th and wasn’t feeling it. My camera went off right after daylight with a doe and that was all the motivation I needed. I quickly got dressed and headed out the door and slipped in the woods. I made it to my climbing stand and up into the tree. When I got sat down and looked at my phone it was 7:30AM. I thought I would hit a doe in estrous can a few times and a grunt call immediately. My thought was if anything heard me it would think the noise was just a buck chasing a doe in the area. I put my calls back in my bag and looked up. I immediately heard him coming. I saw his tail first, straight up in the air. He came running out and then made several direction changes rapidly, trying to find that hot doe. He stopped for a brief second, giving me that broadside shot that I needed. I’ve never had large leases to hunt on or the money to pay for that stuff. I finally asked a neighbor to hunt his property and got permission. This is the biggest buck of my life, and I couldn’t be happier or prouder. Probably a lot bigger bucks submitted, but my pride and hard work is what makes me prouder than most. At least in my mind. I can’t wait to get him back from the taxidermy.
