Hunt Story

This buck was a non-dominant one in the 2015 season. He came in opening morning in 2015 with the dominant buck we were hunting and before a shot opened they were spooked by the group of does they were with. Jump forward to 2016, this was the buck of focus and as he started growing we saw the potential he had. We followed him all summer week by week. After seeing him three times on hoof crossing the road going to our camera we knew he was using this small tract frequently after checking cams and seeing he was in daylight around 7 p.m. the two weeks prior to opening morning we knew that was going to be our best shot. Although having no pictures of morning I still went in hoping he would follow his pattern the year before; 7 a.m. comes around I look up and see a deer crossing a walking trail and immediately knew it was him. He started towards me, and when I turned to get my bow and camera he was gone. I caught a second glimpse of him at an apple tree in the yard of the house I was hunting and saw him walking away out of the picture. Fifteen minutes pass and I see two small velvet bucks and a doe coming towards me and not far behind was him. They led him to a 15-yard shot, and he piled up about 100 yards from my stand. Out of the woods by 8:30 am.
