Hunt Story

With the rut coming on and the temperature in the 30s for the first time this season, my dad had made the decision to keep me out of school on Wednesday November 4th and take me hunting. It was cold, clear and calm and we went to our big 2 man ladder stand on a hardwood ridgetop. We had had a lot of action early that morning, seeing 4 does and a few small bucks. It was about 8:15 when the what i called "Monster" walked out from the bottom about 35 yards from us. My dad made a grunt noise with his mouth and he stopped but with his shoulder behind a tree. I aimed my Ruger .308 at the front of his shoulder/base of neck area. I squeezed the trigger and he bolted off like a rocket but was running low to the ground and struggling to stay upright. We heard him crash about 50 yards from where I shot him and we immediately climbed down to recover him. I'm so thankful to god and to my dad for the opportunity to go hunting! This was my 7th buck of my life and my biggest buck ever! It was a far better day, than going to school!
