Hunt Story

After four days of working cows, I finally got some to time to get in my stand. I had been wanting to be there so bad since our rut is December 2nd - 11th. We were also experiencing the first cold front we have had in a long while. I arrived at my stand about 3:40 pm. It was 40 degrees, zero to 5 mile an hour wind, perfect day to be in the woods. Around 4:30, 5 does came out and started grazing down the rows of milo toward the wheat. Soon after, at 250 yards, the buck comes in the food plot. I knew it was him...V Blade. We gave him this nickname while watching him grow and mature to the trophy he is. There is a limesink in the middle of the food plot about 200 yards from the stand. V Blade bounced around a few times, chased some does, then walked down into the limesink and cleaned out his scrape. The way he was racking his antlers on the tree sounded like a moose. I had no shot. He was 10 feet down. When he finally came out, I picked up my rifle and of all times, my scope was fogged up. While I am wiping my scope with my shirt, he walks within 50 yards. One shot from the 6.5 Grendel. It was BBD. This buck was priority on our hit list after watching him grow for the past 5 years. This is proof that big deer can be raised with proper deer management that I encourage everyone to embrace.
