Hunt Story

After weeks of scouting and monitoring a trail camera in the archery-only quarry hunting area in Hart County, I had decided to set up on the ridge where I had located rubs and scrapes. The area was made up of white oak and red oak trees. Acorns were starting to drop and cover the ground. I got to my hunting area before daylight and climbed the tree I had previously selected. About 30 minutes after daylight, I heard footsteps coming behind me from the south. I carefully turned, and using binoculars, found the deer. This buck looked like the deer I had been seeing on the trail camera. As he approached, I drew my bow and waited for a shot. When he was about 10 yards from the tree stand, I shot and hit him in the spine. He dropped immediately. I waited in the stand for another 30 minutes before climbing down. The buck was there on the ground where he had fallen.
