Hunt Story
i WAS HUNTING ON THE GROUND IN A CAMO FOLDING CHAIR BEHIND A LEAF-O-FLAGE PORTABLE TURKEY BLIND. I HAD HUNTED THE MORNING AND HAD ONLY SEEN ONE DEER, A 3 1/2 YR OLD 8 POINTER AT 10:00. WENT TO LUNCH AND RETURNED TO THE FIELD AT 4:15. NOTHING MOVED AT ALL UNTIL 6 PM WHEN AN OLD NANNY DOE LED A PARADE OF DOES INTO THE FIELD. THEY KEPT LOOKING INTO THE WOODS AND SOON A PRETTY GOOD 8 PT RAN OUT AND SCATTERED THE DOES. DOES KEPT COMING TILL THERE WERE 8 DOES IN FRONT OF ME. TWO MORE BUCKS, ANOTHER 8 PTY AND A NON-TYPICAL 8 OR 9 PT RAN OUT. I WAS PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE TRIGGER OF MY WEATHERBY 270 MAG TO TAKE THE NON-TYPICAL OUT OF THE HERD WHEN I NOTICED A WIDE-RACKED 8 PT BRUISER COMING ACROSS THE FIELD STRAIGHT TOWARD ME. THANKING GOD THAT I HAD NOT PULLED THE TRIGGER, I RE-DIRECTED MY AIM AND SHOT THE BIG BUCK DOWN IN HIS TRACKS. HE HAS THE WIDEST RACK I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN OVER 60 YEAR5 OF DEER HUNTING. THE OUTSIDE SPR5EAD WAS 22 1/2" AND THE INSIDE SPREAD WAS 20 7/16"
