Hunt Story

On 11/20/20, Blaze and I got settled into our two man ladderstand at 3 PM, in hopes that a buck we had on camera earlier in the morning would show back up in the evening hours. He was caught on trail camera in this very spot at 6AM and 11 AM. It was fairly warm and the deer usually move late in the evening in this spot, but the rut is wide open right now and anything can happen at any time. We were quietly talking back and forth and were about to say a prayer like we do each time we hunt, when Blaze said he heard something walking in the leaves. I turned around to look behind us and sure enough, here comes a good buck, from behind the stand. His path of choice would lead him past our stand at a mere 15 yards. Blaze has practiced a lot further than that, so I felt confident that he could make the shot with ease. We quietly got the rifle around to the left side and Blaze got ready. I softly made a mouth bleat to stop the buck once he was broadside to us and when he did, Blaze put a round from our suppressed 300 Blackout right through the buck’s heart. He went down right there on the spot and never got back up. I’m so proud of him for his accomplishments and for being so patient. He and I finished saying our prayer and we thanked God for such a wonderful blessing before climbing down to put his hands on his perfect, 8-point buck.
