Hunt Story

This was the first deer that my 13-year-old daughter has harvested. She has been deer and turkey hunting with me for years. She is also my faithful fishing buddy. She really became interested in deer hunting this year and had grown and matured enough to be able to handle a .243 herself. I purchased her a .243 BAR. She practiced with it in the range and became comfortable. We had hunted approximately 8-9 times earlier this year and had seen deer each time. We even had an encounter with a nice 8 point just a week earlier, but she passed up a shot that was not a good shot and would have been rushed- I was proud of her fir not rushing it. On this afternoon we were up in stand by 4:15 and Temps were dropping after rain the day before. This 7 point came out of some 7 year old planted pines to our right and moves through mature plantation cut pines to the food plot with feeder. Blair scoped him at 50 yards. She asked if she could shoot him and I told her if that was the one she wanted, to go ahead. She steadied herself and placed a perfect shot behind his right shoulder and he fell approximately 12 yards away. She was thrilled and I was beyond excited. We stayed in our tower stand- with me sitting behind her on my dove bucket - for about 5 minutes and then climbed down to view her deer. Great hunt, proud daddy and excited, beautiful girl!
