Hunt Story

I was sitting in a ladder stand that I love to hunt in during the rut.... It's on the edge of some planted pines... I can see a good ways off. The morning started off a little slow... I grunted and doe bleated some but didn't see any movement. At 8:06 I saw a doe come out of the woods, and right behind her was a big shooter buck. The only problem was I ranged them at 340 yards.I've never shot at a deer at this distance before and they weren't coming my way. So I got down on my knees and used the arm rest as a shooting rail for my 30-06. A great hunting buddy of mine always told me to shoot deer in the neck because there is no tracking and less meat gets damaged. I know he wasn't talking about this kind of distance, but I figured I would give it a try and I was concerned about tracking him if it was a bad hit. It would be either a good hit or a good miss. By this time buck fever had kicked in, and I had the whole stand shaking. But three shots later, a lot of luck and a doe hanging around, I dropped a great buck with a neck shot. The final range was 359 yards. I was very very blessed that day with a buck I'm very proud of.
