Got to my 20-foot ladder stand at 5:30 and got settled in for the hunt. I put out my doe in heat lure and sprayed some cover scent to mask my scent. The stand is located on the edge of a thicket to provide more cover. He had shown up on my trail cam plenty of times but never after 5:00 am but was getting a bit later each day over the past weeks. I had a chance to shoot him twice last deer season but passed him up to let him grow. I was watching a couple of does this morning and turned to see that this buck had just walked out of the thicket at about 60 yards away. That was my opportunity so I took my shoot and he dropped right there where he was standing.
