Hunt Story

On Saturday, November 6, 2021, a friend and I decided we would hunt a lease that he held for many years though it was hunted sparingly, only a few times a year. I went to a stand in a bottom surrounded with pines and hardwoods. At about 6:20 PM I saw an8-point to my right and immediately assessed that he was not a shooter. The deer turned into the woods without giving me a really great look at him. I hit my grunt attempting to call him back to get a better look. A few seconds later I sprayed some Tink's hoping to get his attention and turn him around. In just a few seconds I heard this big one coming, more like crashing, through very thick brush. As soon as he reached the clearing he immediately put his nose to the ground and walked from my left to right. When I shot him he did not fall, he did not run, but rather kept walking. My heart sank to my toes. I thought I missed. I racked in another round and when I got another open shot I shot him again. He kicked and ran about another 60 yards before crashing. When he was processed it was revealed that I had in fact hit him with both shots. Truly the buck of a lifetime.
