Hunt Story

I was unable to hunt opening day and didn’t wake up in time to hunt on Sunday morning. I kept telling myself I needed to go out that afternoon, it just seemed like a good day to hunt. I got out to my spot around 5:00, I was running late. I sat in a tower stand over looking the field and saw nothing for about an hour and 15 minutes. Around 6:15 I saw 3 young deer, and soon after I saw two good-size does on the other side of the field. They were about 300 yards out, so I didn’t want to shoot until they were closer. They got closer and I was deciding if I was going to shoot one of them, but before I did I looked to my left and saw what seemed to be a good-size buck about 160 yards out. I repositioned and looked at him through my scope and could tell he was at least an 8-point. He was slowly walking towards the does, stopping to eat occasionally. He stopped and gave me a perfect broadside shot. One shot and he was down! I got down out of the stand walked to him and he ended up being a 9-point. Blessed is an understatement for this opening weekend. I just knew it was going to be a good day and it sure was!
