Hunt Story

I got in my ladder stand and settled a little after 7 a.m. About 50 yards away in front of me I saw antlers. I grabbed my crossbow, took the safety off and was ready. The buck came in trotting, so I made a noise to stop him. When he stopped, he was 3 yards from the right side of my stand. I had to shoot through an opening of leaves straight down. I shot the deer back further than I wanted. He ran out of sight. I called my husband (Roger, who was in Ohio hunting) and told him where I shot him. He said let's give the buck time to bed and not spook him, he might not die right away. My husband called a man named Pat, and he came out with his dog the next morning after 7 a.m. So Pat, Dewayne and I walked to my stand. His dog found my buck within 5 minutes from where I shot him. He ran about 100 yards and actually ran toward the road. He died 50 yards from our vehicles. I had clipped the artery near the spine. The arrow was still in him and the broadhead was sticking out an inch from his stomach. I was so excited to walk up on him. I didn't realize how big he was. This is my biggest buck! His face is white, and he had some tree bark shavings on his antlers. I can't wait to get him mounted! My friend Dewayne Goodwin gutted him for me and helped me drag him to the truck. Thanks Dewayne for the great pictures. Thank you Roger for being there for me by phone. This was a great experience, and it happened so fast. I will never forget this day. Thank you God!
