Hunt Story
I’ve been watching this deer since he was in velvet. He’s clearly the best deer on our property this year. Hunted him hard starting opening day of bow season, but he’s almost always nocturnal. Of the hundreds of pictures we have of him, only a handful were during shooting light. I actually had a heartbreaking miss on him about two weeks prior to this hunt with my bow. This particular evening was very active. Lots of does and a couple of small bucks throughout the afternoon. With just a few minutes of shooting light left, three does came out of the woods from my left and immediately looked behind them. As he came into view I knew immediately it was the deer we simply call “the 11”. He stopped facing me at 20 yards and looked right up at me. He took a slight turn to his right and I was able to put a round right through his shoulder. He ran about 100 yards and I heard him crash. My biggest Georgia deer ever was on the ground…FINALLY!
