Hunt Story

With the 2022 season approaching and permission to some new land, my husband put out a camera and some feed. We got pictures of a couple of bucks that I was excited about. Opening morning was rainy, but not enough to keep us out of the woods. We sat until 11:30 and only saw one small fawn. We went back that evening and saw so many deer, it was an exciting hunt aside from the mosquitoes. A larger 8-point in full velvet gave me a small opportunity for a shot, and I was itching to break in my new Ravin crossbow. But decided to pass on him in hopes that one of our target bucks would appear. As it got a little later in the evening, a large-bodied buck finally came out. Without looking at the horns too much, I got ready to shoot. He spooked at something and almost ran off before I got my chance, but thankfully I was able to make a great shot at just 20 yards and he crashed not 40 yards away. Needless to say we were very excited when we recovered one of our target bucks with awesome character. It was a great opening day, and an amazing way to kick off the season!
