Hunt Story

On the day of Oct. 10, 2015, my papa came home from the quota hunt at Di-Lane to bring me hunting. We got in the stand around 4 pm. As we sat and waited, it started raining and got really cold, but I knew I wanted to stay and at least hopefully see something. After about 15 minutes it stopped raining and the sky looked amazing. My papa and I took a few pictures of the sky. Then out came a 6-point with a nice body. I wasn’t really ready, but as I got my gun up he started trotting off. My papa bleated to stop him and he stopped but was behind a small pine tree and I couldn’t see him. Then he ran down a hill and was gone. I was kinda disappointed, but I knew exactly what I needed to do. I prayed and asked God to give me another chance to shoot a buck. About 30 minutes before dark, I see a buck and ask my papa how big it was. He said he thought it was an 8-point, so I got my gun and told my papa I was ready. He bleated at the buck, and the buck stopped walking. I squeezed the trigger, looked up and didn’t see him running off, so I knew he dropped. We went down to get him, and it turns out I shot me a 9-point for my first buck.
