Hunt Story

Hello! My name is Alayna Hogard and I killed a 9-point buck this past Wednesday evening with a crossbow. It was a quiet evening, and he was by himself when he emerged through the woods. Fortunately, my family has developed a food source behind the house (protein feeder and corn supplementing) and it provides a good reason for the deer to walk through our small acreage behind our home. This buck walked up to our feeding area and foraged for approximately 10 minutes. It was that time when I was able to focus on a good lethal shot, and pulled the trigger! I knew immediately that it was a good shot based on the blood at the wound site. He ran to my left and disappeared into the woods. After an excited phone call to my Dad, he and my youngest brother emerged to help me recover my buck! We only had to track him 40 yards (+/-) before we found him in a ravine. That's when the shaking took over. Although this is a beautiful deer, the reason I hunt is not for trophy or show. It is so I can provide food for my family in addition to grow closer to the Lord’s creation. Genesis 9:3 states “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.” ‭ God loves us so much He gifted us the beauty of the great outdoors, from the smallest butterfly to the biggest oak tree. I have no doubt He gifted me that deer on Wednesday. All glory and credit go to our Father in Heaven!
