Hunt Story
we were hunting with a group called CMOS kids, a non-profit organization that takes handicapped, mentally challenged, single parent, parents with disabilities, or terminally ill children hunting, fishing and camping at little to no cost to the family. www.cmoskids.org. While hunting that morning while the sun was rising, we could see shadows in the distance. We were unable to tell what sex the deer were but we could see them moving. As the morning became lighter, we could see that there were bucks and does present but were unable to count the horns. After several minutes of watching the deer, they ran into the woods. we were upwind. After some time went by, the deer slowly returned to the area. At around 6:45, the deer went back into the woods, and about 4 minutes later this deer came out and just stood there broadside to us looking our way. He moved his tail a few times and continued to stand there. My son got ready to shoot, while getting ready, another hunter in the area fired his gun, and while the shot echoed, I told my son to click the safety off. He did and then shot. The deer dropped immediately. I told my son to reload. Due to safety the group rules is to only load 1 bullet in the gun. He did so. We walked down to the deer, and when we got there, I told my son to touch the eyes. He wanted to know why so I told him. We saw the deer was dead and we took several pictures. When we counted the horns we were totally surprised to see that it was a 7-point. Could possibly be a 8-point due to a small growth at the base of the horns that you could hang a ring on, but we will call it a 7-point. This was the first deer my son has killed. He shot and missed 1 last year and was nearly devastated, but the scope was off. We had hunted in this area the week before and saw 3 does. My son chose not to shoot the does because we were told there were big deer in the area. I told him his patience would pay off, and it did with a very nice 7-point. When skinning the deer, he got his initiation into the club. I am very proud of the patience my son had, to wait on this deer. I got a video of the shoot but it was dark and barely visible, but you can see it.
