Hunt Story

My son and I decided to go hunting with only about an hour of daylight left. As we were driving up to our stand location we discovered they were picking peanuts in the field next to the stand we wanted to hunt. We were disappointed and I asked my son if he still wanted to go hunting but in a different stand location on the other side of the farm. We decided to hunt since we were already at the farm, but we didn’t have much time. We watched a few does and right before dark we saw a large bodied deer coming out of the woods but we couldn’t see his head. He finally stepped out of the woods and began making a scrape about 50 yards in front of our stand. He started to walk and I was able to get him to stop so my son could make the shot. He dropped the buck right in his tracks. The buck was a 240 pound mature 8 point that we had seen on camera. My son was really excited to shoot this buck! Thank goodness they were picking peanuts next to our original stand location, or my son never would have killed this buck. I guess it’s always better to be lucky than good!
