Hunt Story
It was Wednesday, Nov. 11 when I hunted the club for the first time this year. I had hunted Stewart County during bow season on my club there. So I went to my club only 1/2 mile from my home, and got in the stand at 6:25 a.m. on the 11th. It was still—no birds, squirrels, nothing. My son text me at 8:50 a.m. asking if I had seen anything. I text back and told him no. I love to bow hunt, so I had my bow hanging, but I carried my .308 single shot H&R. At 8:53, I saw horns coming through the pines and gallberries at about 100 yards. He came to three trails. I thought if he goes right or left, it would be a gun shot. If came straight, it would be a bow shot. He went right and walked about 10 yards and stood between two pines. That's when I put the smack down on him. He ran about 30 yards and crashed dead. PS: I have been with GON a long time and killed some good bucks, but never entered one, but my son said, “Daddy, enter this one, so I am.”
