Hunt Story

I was hunting a box stand over a food plot on some land we had just recently closed on. I was so excited to be able to get to finally hunt because I had been working, spending time with my two kids, and training dogs a lot more than usual. I knew it was time to be in the stand all day. I hunted Friday night, Saturday AM and was starting to feel defeated because I hadn't seen as much action as I expected for it to be to "primetime, rut".... I literally texted my mom Friday and asked if she could keep our kiddos because I wanted to hunt all weekend! Anyways, I asked my dad if I should go hunting that night and he said, "You've got to be in the stand right now." So my husband, Scot and I went. Scot hunted the food plot in front of me and I hunted the one in the back of the property. I had a few doe and two spikes out in the right corner of the field right at dark. Undoubtedly, my husband shot near 6:50 p.m. and I had just texted him to say "What did you get?".. when out of the corner of my eye this buck walks out right in the middle of the food plot... (the box stand is very open).. he kind of popped out like "Crap! I'm out here in this wide open!" and then put his nose to the ground and headed toward the deer in the right of my plot.... It happened so fast! I ducked down to hide thinking there is NO WAY this big joker is about to go in front of me in the middle of this food plot.... clicked off the safety and slowly raised up to find him in my sights the best I could... shot... and he dropped less than 15 yards from my box stand. Turns out, it was the buck my husband had shot and missed .... which is why he came out in mine! Then he must've caught sight and smell of does in mine and took off toward them... thank goodness I was in the right place at the right time. Luck was definitely on my side for once and I am so proud of this buck! For those who must know, Scot was as proud as he could possibly be when he realized I shot the one he just missed... very good sport and good man! Just said he HAD to go to the gun range! We are just glad one of us got him! The moral of the story - you can't afford to hunt together during the GEORGIA Rut!! lol
