Hunt Story
My 7-year-old daughter has been practicing shooting her .223 rifle, shooting great, and she was really determined to kill a buck. We had hunted Saturday and Sunday morning, seeing lots of does and one spike. On Sunday evening, we were sitting in a two-man ladder on a hardwood ridge top and had seen lots of does and one small buck. At 7:05 this 10-point buck appeared from the holly trees out in front of us. I asked her if she could see him in the scope and could she get steady on his shoulder, and she said yes. I told her to aim and squeeze, and when the gun went off, the deer ran off straight away from us and we heard him crash. She was crying tears of joy, saying, "I just shot my first deer ever and this is the best day or my life!" We climbed down and recovered him 30 yards from where he was standing when she shot. My oldest son killed a 10-point buck for his first deer with the same New England Arms .223 rifle several years ago when he was only 6, and now she killed a 10 for her first deer at age 7, with the same gun! It was an awesome weekend hunting with her and I am very thankful and blessed for this lifelong memory that we made together. Pictured with Quinn in the 3rd picture is her oldest brother Brady and younger brother, Rhett. Lord willing and probably in a blink of the eye, I will be sitting in the stand with Rhett and that same .223 rifle.
