Hunt Story

Arriving at hunting club late Monday afternoon around 4:30, another member and I decided to hunt our food plots. Knowing I could not get to my food plot stand undetected I decided to hunt a ladder stand located 200 yards from my food plot. The stand is on a lightly wooded rise that separates a hardwood swampy area and a pine marsh area. At around 5:40 sunset I looked to my right and caught movement of buck’s rack first. He appeared to be browsing on an upper part of several large bushes located around him. It was presented with a tough 45 degree angle shot at at a distance of forty-five yards. I imitated a buck grunt call hoping he would turn for a broadside shot. About twenty long seconds had passed before I realized he had turned enough for me to make a good shot. Over the past couple of years tracks indicated a nice buck was about. I didn’t expect to see him out in the open with little cover, leisurely walking about.
