Hunt Story
Sunday morning, October 4, 2020 me, my dad and two of my best friends decided to go hunting later that evening. The day was perfect, it was overcast, and we figured the deer would be on their feet and moving. I got into my stand and saw a group of turkeys move through the bottom. About 30 minutes later I’m sitting there and hear the leaves crunch behind me as if a deer was coming, and it sure enough was. I turned to look and saw just a doe, then all of a sudden behind that doe comes the Big Ten himself. He chases the doe right under my stand point blank range and moves out about 10 yards and quartering away. I stand up in my lock on and grab my compound bow. I get to full draw without being busted by the doe and I let it fly. I could see my lighted nock disappear perfectly where it should be, I had a perfect shot. The Big Ten ran about 40 yards, stopped and his tail was twitching really fast. The doe ran back from where they originally came from and the Big Ten ran the same way as if he was hurt. I immediately called my dad in excitement and told him to come help me find him. My dad and brother in law came to help me look for blood and where the big Ten had originally stopped, there was a dinner plate size area of pink bubbly blood signaling a lung shot. We started trailing the blood and didn’t even have to stop once, a very good blood trail. The buck ran approximately 100 yards before expiring in a ditch in about 6 inches of water. This hunt will definitely never be one to forget, and I am very grateful to have the chance to harvest a deer of this caliber in Liberty County.
