Hunt Story

As I was walking to my blind, I was thinking about all the things I had to do today and I wondered, "Why am I hunting this morning.” But I remembered feeling the exact same way back in 2008 when I shot the 150 4/8 class buck that got me in the Shoot-Out as a wildcard finalist. I climbed into the blind and flopped down in a chair that was facing downhill. After about 10 minutes, I decided to turn my chair so I could see both directions. I casually looked uphill and saw a glimpse of a buck, so I slowly stood up and turned around so I could shoot right handed. As the buck was trotting off, I knew that was him. The buck me, my son, daughter and law, and grandsons have been hunting for the last three years. Suddenly he stopped and looked at me broadsided. I immediately put the crosshairs on his shoulder and shot. He jumped up and run off. I knew I hit him, but after waiting five minutes, or so, I finally found hair, but no blood. I looked the way he had run when I spotted the 170-lb. 8-pointer lying in the hardwoods about 40 yards away. Before. I walked over to him, I stopped and thanked God.
