Hunt Story
My son and I were delivering firewood from the family land and saw a mature buck tending a doe and decided to stop delivering wood and hunt that evening. When glassing over the woods with binoculars, I saw the buck bedded with the doe, and she eventually got up and he began chasing her. Griffin had an early shot; however, it was not a safe shot, so the rifle was not shouldered, and eventually the doe came right by him followed by the buck. I actually grunted and stopped him the first time, but Griffin couldn’t get settled, and the doe began to move again and so did the buck. I had to yell to stop him the second time, and Grif made the shot. He hit him behind the shoulder and the exit was cent of his brisket, but given the deer's reaction we waited until morning to track him. After about 600 yards we called Todd Brown and his dog Jax, who if not for their assistance, we would not have recovered the deer. Seven long hours into tracking the deer had traveled over a mile and circled back to the family land and was recovered several hundred yards from the initial shot.
