Hunt Story

This is my second year of hunting in South Georgia, I have seen plenty of deer but I have always said that If I was going to take the life of such a beautiful creature that I wanted it to be worth it. I have been very patient even with the constant teasing from my family over letting deer walk. I saw this deer on camera over the summer and decided he was the one. After another hunter in the club spotted him at my stand over the weekend, my Dad decided it was ok to miss a few days of school to try to finally get him. We sat Tuesday morning and saw absolutely nothing. We got down and went back to camp to rest for a few hours. Not only did we oversleep, once we got in the woods we realized that we both thought the other grabbed my gun! So we raced back to our cabin, grabbed the gun and finally made it into the stand around 5:10. Again, we weren’t seeing anything, then all of a sudden my dad thought he spotted something. We grabbed the binoculars and would you believe it was him! I was strangely calm at this point, my dad on the other hand was a nervous wreck! You would have thought it was him that was about to shoot. Nevertheless, I dialed in my scope waited until I had the perfect shot and then let it go. I have never been so excited and nervous at the same time. I was so afraid I missed somehow, but I was pretty sure I heard him crash not far from where I shot him. Keep in mind that this was my very first deer ever... and the first time shooting from a stand. After my dad gained his composure we got down and went to look for him. We couldn’t find any blood but only after looking around for a few minutes we saw him. I shot him a little below his shoulder and all the blood was running down his leg which is why we couldn’t find any. After taking so many pictures and calling my Mom and brother, we loaded him up and headed straight for the meat processor. God truly blessed me with sending him my way. I have prayed, been patient and done the work and it all paid off. There is no one I’d rather have shared this memory with than my Dad.
